A Day To Remember

I will never forget where I was on September 11, 2001. It was day that will always be ingrained in my mind. I was asleep in my college apartment when one of my roommates came running into my room yelling, "the World Trade Center has been hit by a plane." I got out of bed thinking, "what the heck is she talking about." She had the TV on in the living room and all three of us sat there and stared as the first tower was smoking and on fire. Just as we were watching in horror and disbelief the second plane crashed into the second building. I had so many emotions running through me and couldn't comprehend it all. I remember watching the reporters on the TV who were in a state of shock themselves, and then the building collapsed right behind the reporters and everyone started to run. They still held class that morning at the college and every one walked the halls so quiet and deep in thought. There were many who had family in NY and weren't able to reach them. Class got canceled that afternoon and I think everyone went home in a state of shock. To this day I still can't comprehend the tragedy that happened in NY that day. Through all of the horror of that day I believe it has pulled us together as a nation! I don't think we as a nation have ever been so PATRIOTIC or have been so UNITED as we have been after September 11, 2001.

Angie had President Bush's speech posted on her blog that he made on September 11th. I don't think any other words express it better. This will always be a day that will go down in American History!

"...These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong. A great people has been moved to defend a great nation.
Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.

America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining.

Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature, and we responded with the best of America, with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could..."
..."Tonight I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a power greater than any of us spoken through the ages in Psalm 23: "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me."

This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time.

None of us will ever forget this day, yet we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world.

Thank you. Good night and God bless America."
